I have been living on Maui since 1969. We first moved from Nevada to Keokea, Kula where my grandparents (second generation from Japan – Nisei) were farmers. Their main crop was cabbage, but they were quite industrious utilizing every bit of their land. They had pastures with cattle and avocado trees. Their long driveway was lined with berms that had sweet potatoes growing in them and wild spinach above. Closer to their home, they grew daikon, green onions, squash, and had a greenhouse with anthuriums and orchids. Farm workers would come from different areas of Kula including China Town on Polipoli Road for harvest days. The community in Keokea has not changed much. While next generations didn’t always continue the farming, the relaxed and harmonious community atmosphere continues. When someone needs help of any kind, many will appear to lend a hand. And it’s not unusual to come home to find a bag of avocados, Kula onions, proteas, or other produce sitting at your door step. To this day, I have the greatest respect for farmers on Maui and really miss living in Keokea. I now live in Central Maui in Kehalani at the base of the West Maui Mountains which is quite convenient for a Realtor always on the go. A common Saturday morning is to go to the Swap Meet and see my favorite farmers from Kula and also to buy fresh fish from a Hana Fisherman. I have also lived in other various areas of the island including Pukalani, Makawao, Kihei, Lahaina, Haiku, Kahului, and Wailuku. As such, I am very familiar with the communities, culture, history, dynamics, and real estate quite well.

I have over 31 years of real estate related experience.

My real estate experience began in 1989 and continued for 12 years assisting an Attorney on Maui that specialized in real estate. I learned a lot from this attorney including working with contracts, preliminary title reports, deeds, real estate litigation, and he was also appointed often as the Commissioner in foreclosure proceedings. This exposure and its complexities gave me a good foundation in real estate.

From 2001 – 2011 I was in Mortgage Lending as a Mortgage Loan Specialist originating and closing first mortgages, second mortgages, and home equity lines of credit. I know about the primary and secondary mortgage market, banks/credit unions/mortgage brokers/correspondents/VA/FHA/Fanniemae/Freddiemac/VA/USDA and qualifying, underwriting, appraisals, credit, pricing on interest rate with corresponding cost relating to the 3 Cs (credit, capacity, and collateral), loan to value, occupancy, and what happens from loan inquiry through closing. I also learned about what drives interest rates and how one can have a pretty good indicator of how interest rates are performing and things to consider when locking in an interest rate.

I also worked for a builder as I was leaving the mortgage industry. This experience taught me about construction, county requirements, state requirements, expenses, permitting, zoning, plumbing fixture counts, covered decks, demolition, and timing.

In 2011 I went to Real Estate School and acquired my Real Estate License. I have been doing sales and purchases ever since. I earned the Designation of an Accredited Buyer Representative and am in the process of completing my two new designations of Seller Representative Specialist and Certified Negotiator. My experiences provide the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively represent both Buyers and Sellers in advocacy, protection, and meeting their goals. Having earned the reputation of extensive knowledge of all aspects of real estate, diligent representation, effective negotiation skills, and exceeding expectations earns me many word of mouth referrals, a true testament of problem solving and accomplishing goals.
I truly enjoy helping both Sellers and Buyers and being immersed in Maui Real Estate. Working with people on what their goals are in Real Estate and achieving the desired result is a large accomplishment and being a part of that journey is a privilege and honor. Seeing many types of properties all over the island is fun too.

When I’m not working, I love being with family and friends, going to the beach, having get togethers, cooking, gardening, reading, tennis, Zumba & other forms of dance, and interior decorating.
